Queen

Stephanie Lemay, a seventeen-year-old from Brookfield, Wisconsin has become the 2008 Wisconsin Brown Swiss Queen.  Her family includes her parents, Mark and Tammy Lemay, and an older sister, Amanda Lemay. Stephanie is currently a Junior at Brookfield Central High School and plays on the Brookfield Central’s Girl’s Varsity softball team. In the future, Stephanie plans to be involved with the Brown Swiss Industry and on attending the University of Wisconsin-River Falls or the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She would like to work with the dairy animals in the Farm Area at the Milwaukee County Zoo and to continue to promote the Dairy Industry in Wisconsin.

Stephanie is currently the Jr. Vice President for the Wisconsin Brown Swiss Association. She currently owns six registered Brown Swiss, two milking and four heifers. Stephanie first started showing Brown Swiss in Little Britches when she was five years old and participated in Little Britches for three years.  When Stephanie was in the third grade, she became old enough to show managerial animals at the county fair level and is starting her 12th year in 4-H and is a Junior Dairy Leader in her 4-H club, the Brookfield Blazers. In 2003, she leased her first calf named Crispy. When Stephanie became old enough to show at the Wisconsin State Fair, she joined the Wisconsin Brown Swiss Association. At age fifteen, she officially bought her first heifer named Clarice as a Spring Yearling. Stephanie bought her through the “Share a Heifer Program”, sponsored by Nelson McCammon. In 2005, Stephanie bought her second heifer, a fall yearling at the National Brown Swiss Heifer Show in Beloit,Wisconsin. She also has helped coordinate the June Dairy Month Promotion at the Brookfield Public Library the last four years.

Stephanie loves the Brown Swiss breed very much and has met the greatest friends in the Brown Swiss industry. Winning the 2008 Wisconsin Brown Swiss Queen, has been a dream come true. So many great role models were the queens before her and  she has wanted to be a part of it.  Stephanie loves teaching people about dairy, especially since she lives in a non-farming community and looks forward to traveling around Wisconsin sharing her knowledge of the Brown Swiss breed.

The 2007 Queen, Darci O'Brian, crowned Stephanie Lemay as the 2008 WI Brown Swiss Queen. Jenny Moret was the runner-up.

2008 Junior Activities
The most recent activity was a fitting and showing clinic, which went over quite well with lots of help and support from adult members.  The clinic was held at Vogrin Swiss Farms in Arlingtion.  The juniors learned about showmanship, clipping and fitting, what to feed animals, and basics such as washing and animal health.  About fifteen juniors from around the state attended, with numerous adult members donating their time to help.  A major thank you goes to Louis, Debbie and Tammy Voegeli for letting the juniors use the farm and Tammy for teaching them her knowledge.  The juniors would also like to thank the advisors Josh Hushon and Jennifer Meyer for coming, and Krista Kasten and Casey Marstaller for coming to help out.  The day would not have been as successful without all of the support from the adult members, especially the parents who drove their kids.  Following the clinic, a short meeting was held for any junior interested in attending the National Heifer show, and everyone is excited for the turnout Wisconsin is going to have.

Share-A-Heifer
Each year Nelson McCammon sponsors two heifers for our Share-A-Heifer program. The heifers are purchased at our state show by silent auction.

Congratulations to our Share-A-Heifer Recipients:

John Klossner of Mt. Horeb purchased 1/2 of the heifer Fox View Mascot Juneau and Jayden Alderson of Boscobel purchased 1/2 of the heifer Fox View Denver Dayton.

Special thanks to Nelson McCammon for sponsoring the heifers for the program!
